Countdown is on

Sometimes as we look forward to some things in our lives, we can wish our lives away whilst counting down until we get to our big goal.

STS-129_Launch_Countdown_SignI am 10 days away from going on our 800klm pilgrimige across Spain.  I am trying not to count down the days, but I feel like I am at a loose end.  I don’t feel like watching movies, there are only so many times you can clean the house.  I am just waiting…….

It is exciting to be getting ready for something big.

There have been many times throughout our lives where we may have counted down the days.  Going to school, getting married, starting a new job, buying a house or even having a baby.

So instead of counting down I am savouring the moments.  Noticing the weather, the sky, the sunrise, the temperature.  Visiting important people in my life before I go.

Is that pimple really yours?

You know, even at the ripe old age that I am, I can still look in the mirror and see a pimple on my face.  I am not 15 anymore, so pimples aren’t a regular occurrence on my skin like they used to be.

But when I see a pimple, do I:

  • Blame the chocolate I ate?
  • Blame my woman’s cycle?

Or

  • Take responsibility for my pimple?

Like it or not the pimple is there.  I like to take responsibility for my pimple, so the things I do are:

  • Say hello
  • Thank God for oil in my skin
  • Acknowledge that it is there for a reason – my reason.
  • Nothing or no one has created this pimple but me.

Pimples are like lessons in life, take responsibility for them, they are yours and yours to learn from.

So love your pimples even at ripe old age….hahaha.

Life is like a flower

Flower SeedsEverything in life comes from a seed.  Flowers are grown from seeds.  We are conceived from a human ova or seed. Our thoughts are the seed of ideas, perceptions, judgements and opinions.

planted seeds in the soilThe flower seed must sit in the soil.  It needs a dark place to germinate with the right amount of moisture. We are in the womb for 9 months to grow.  Thoughts sit with us before they are ready to come out.

Sprouts

Then the sun reaches deep within to encourage the flower seed to reach up and out towards it. We journey out the birth canal into the world. Our thoughts come out our mouths and then maybe even sit with us.

Dahlia_flowerThe flower begins to grow and blossom, being nourished by the sun and the rain. We begin to grow from a baby into toddler, a child, an adolescent, then an adult. Our thoughts grow and mature and make us who we are.   Some thoughts enable us, some thoughts limit us.

Dying flowerLastly the flower begins to fade and die, returning to the soil as nourishment for future seeds. We too begin to fade and die, returning to the source, to review our lives.  Our thoughts are now full of the wisdom of life, peace and understanding.

Enjoy your flowers of life.

How flexible are you?

Gymnasts are extremely flexible.  They can contort their bodies into unusual shapes, places and even fly through the air.  Why is it they can do it and you can’t?

Being flexible

Being flexible

They have trained their bodies to be really flexible.  Could you train yourself to be flexible?  Do you have to be a gymnast to be flexible?

Life curveballWhen life throws you a curve ball, how flexible are you?  Could you catch the curve ball of life or duck and miss it?

We need to be flexible with our minds, thoughts, emotions and actions.

FencesIf you are inflexible it is because you have put up fences or rules around yourself to operate within.  You have confined your life, choices, actions and emotions.  So instead of a being fenced in a paddock, maybe your could move the fences outward and put them around the country you live in, or better yet, move your fences to the edge of the universe.

Drop in the ocean

Drop in the ocean

Or maybe even think of yourself as a drop of water in the ocean, rather than the confines of pond.

Being flexible means that life will still throw curve balls at you, but you will have the flexibility to catch the ball, or duck it, or even move off the playing field altogether.

Being flexible means the world will move slower and you will have more choice in what you do, say, feel and think.

Being a drop in the ocean.

Everyone is on a pilgrimage

For centuries people have been undertaking sacred pilgrimages all over the world.  Christian pilgrims have walked along the Camino Way to Santiago De Compostela and Muslim pilgrims make their way to Mecca once in their lifetime.   I have recently had a friend and a cousin who have walked the Camino Way and I was interested to watch the movie made of the journey, called “The Way”.

Pilgrimadge path Camino WaySacred pilgrimages made me think about life.  Each of us is searching, whether it be for happiness, love, or for our purpose.

Pilgrims journeyEveryone is on a pilgrimage, it is a journey that each of us travel throughout our lives, to find the truth of who we are.

Our journeys start by doing what our parents want.  Living our lives according to their rules, values and beliefs.

As we step out of that old way of living, we begin to surrender to what is right in our lives.  When we are surrendering on the pilgrimage journey, we can feel lost and at sea in our lives.

Pilgrims Under the guise of surrender we think we are following the path, but in fact we are still living our life by old values of what we think we should be doing now.  Usually we have replaced those old values given to us by our parents, with new ones that still dont serve us.  They used to work for us in the past, but dont anymore, we have out grown them too.

At this point of our pilgrims journey, we may well become angry.  Angry at ourselves, with feelings of being stuck or thinking we have changed, but in fact we haven’t really changed anything.

going around in circlesWhat occurs next is wallowing.  We wallow in our pain and circle around, scolding ourselves that we should have moved on.  Thinking we had let this stuff go, so we can be our true selves.

Then it happens, true surrender.  True surrender is when you least expect it on the pilgrims path, where step into the truth of who you really are. There is peace in this place.  You might find that you are with people and yet you feel alone, alone in your life.

Finding who you are

Finding who you are

You begin to choose your life.  A life that is right for you, not anyone else.  It is a place of courage.

A pilgrimage is unique and only you can journey on it and surrender within it for yourself.

Journey well

Can you walk a path that is not there?

Sometimes on the journey of our lives, you may walk a path that has not been walked before.

Forge your own path

When you forge your own path, you decide where to go and you take those steps.

This is scary because the tried and tested path is easier.

Tried and tested path

Are you brave? Are you brave enough to take the plunge?

Are you brave?

When you forge your own path, you need to be brave and you must trust yourself.

But you may find you doubt yourself. You may find you are full of fear.

This path is rewarding.  You will achieve so much more and be so much more satisfied than you could every realise. When you forge your own path it could be as simple as:

  • Making your own clothes.
  • Living your life, not as your parent have done.
  • Working overseas.
  • Not knowing the outcome of what you are trying to achieve
  • Leaving your stable job

Be brave, forge your own path and you wont be disappointed if you do.

Being brave Tracy xx

There’s are bear in there.

Is there a bear in there and a bear in you?

There’s a bear in there

There are periods of our lives where we enter a cave and we go into the dark.

Pondering your life

It is a place of introspection, a place where we ponder our lives and look at what we are here to do.

Western society tells us we should be, getting going in our lives, moving on, achieving something and being successful.

Tribal cultures tell us that there are times we need to be like the bear.  Hibernate for the winter, nurture ourselves and restore ourselves.

Many people enter a time of hibernation, but they fight it and back out.  They might say ‘it is not what they should be doing’.  So they push on with their lives.  The push through depression, feeling lost, alone and unsatisfied.

Follow your instincts

I suggest we recognize the “bear” times in our lives and be okay with being in the cave.  It is restorative time.  A time to cleanse, to nurture, to be with yourself and your thoughts.

Wisdom within

In the darkness you will become a new you, a you that does not even look like you.

Wisdom within

In the darkness you will find yourself and your inner wisdom.

Just coming out of the cave, love Tracy xx

Do you swing both ways?

As we get older in life, we have habitual ways of operating in our lives that appear to work for us.  We might become successful and be rewarded for those behaviours.

Are they really working for you?

I find that sometimes those ways of behaving in life for success, are a bit like being on a swing and being suspended up one end, for ages.  You cannot sustain this position long term.   However in life you think you can and you do.

When I was in the corporate world I was pursuing the corporate ladder.  I was driven, determined, I got the work done and was rewarded for it.  Little did a I realise that this state of being wasn’t working for me on many other levels.

I was suspended.

In fact I was defying gravity.  When you defy gravity and the natural laws, it means things go out of balance.

If you have been stuck out one way in your life, the only place you are going to go, is back the other way just as far.

For me, it was, drive my life, drive my life, drive my life.  When I swung the other way in my life, it became, rest, rest, rest.  That really was a shock to me.  I didnt realise that I was fighting the laws of phsyics.  You swing one way so far, you have to swing back the other way as far.

This will continue to happen in your life, until you hit an equalibrium point, which is balance.

My best advice is this, recognise how far your are swinging out in your life and then choose not to stay their too long because the consequences are, you are going to swing the other way just as far, until you come into the equalibrium point of life.

Enjoy the swings of life, but stop hanging around out there!!

Lost – are the answers in the forest, the trees or the leaves?

There are times in our lives where we can feel lost. We can ask for help from our friends and special loved ones and they help us to find out where we are.

But there are also times when we can ask for help when we are lost and it feels like we are in the forest.  We can become so overwhelmed that now the only thing we see are the leaves.

Getting bogged down in the detail of situations can put you into a place that is not useful.

There is a way out  and you can find clarity.   Lets fly like the eagle and look at the forest.

The forest is like a map.

Maps are great because they give you the overview of a place. An in-car navigator can direct you down streets which are the leaves of the forest and direct from where you are to where you want to go.  Remember though the in-car navigator is still looking at the world from the overview, they are still looking at the forest.  They have zoomed in for your next step.

There can also be times we might be looking at the something in our life that is 6 months down the track and we dont know how we are going to get there.  In the forest that would be the trees.  But the route from where you are, to where you want to be is unclear.  Again it is about looking at your situation from the forest perspective and finding a track from where you are, to where you want to go.

Navigate through life, using the forest, the trees and the leaves because all aspects help us to move forward in balance and there is beauty and learning in really seeing the forest, the trees and the leaves.

Is it easier to have an instant garden than to grow your own?

How many of us want things now?

I know I do at certain times in my life, especially when I am tired, sick of myself or impatient.

I was given an opportunity to do something this week, that was really important and worthwhile.  I would have been really pushed to get it done in the time frame in a quality way.   I was guided to I look at the situation this way.

Is it easier to have an instant garden or to grow your own from seedlings?

When people build a house they get two options, they can either get a landscaper in and do an instant garden or they do it themselves.  If they are impatient and they want their house completely done, they might pick the landscaper.  He/ She would come in, put in mature plants, grass paving etc and their garden could look like it has been there for 20 years.

What happens though, is that instant garden dies off after about a week, even just a little. Looks great for a couple of days but the garden doesn’t have the strength in its foundation. It could  be sustained, but it takes a lot of tending.

So should you take the time to plant your garden from seedlings, giving them time to grow roots, to grow with the sun and truly embed themselves in your soil?

With my situation I decided to take the time, plant the seedlings and not be rushed.  I want strength in my foundations and create something that will last.

What do you choose you in your life?

Enjoy Tracy x
